In news sure to please finance bros and the lip-filler crowd, Japanese-Latin American experiential restaurant Sushisamba is debuting its first Asia Pacific location in Singapore this July with unimpeded views of the city’s skyline.
Taking over the 52nd floor of Capitol Tower, the concept will feature a stage-like open kitchen and grill, cocktail lounge, DJs, and performers.
The kitchen will be helmed by chef and culinary director Kyung Soo Moon, whose Instagram account consists of him posing with football players and spooning a tuna.
Sushisamba was founded in New York in 1999. The high-end restaurant has a history of opening in flamboyant destinations, including London’s Heron Tower, the St. Regis Dubai, and The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas.
The brand is owned by Sunset Hospitality Group, a Dubai-based hotel, restaurant, and nightlife operator whose portfolio includes Mott 32 in Hong Kong and Mamacita in Bali.
Like its other outlets, Sushisamba Singapore’s menu consists of Japanese, Peruvian, and Brazilian flavours. Signatures include Peruvian ceviche, sushi, and sashimi, with ingredients sourced both overseas and locally. There are plans to introduce dishes exclusive to the location like a chilli crab roll.
The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner. Prices have not been announced yet, not that it matters when you have an expense account.
Designed by award-winning architectural firm Kokai Studios, Sushisamba Singapore is spread across 12,000 square feet with 250 seats. The main dining room will have a theatre-style kitchen and robata grill, together with DJs playing Afro, Brazilian, and Latin-inspired beats, samba dancers, and percussionists. Three private dining rooms with their own views allow diners to peer down at the proletariat.
The venue will also include the Samba Room, a lounge on the mezzanine floor. According to Sushisamba’s website, it is where “dinners turn into parties and strangers become friends,” perfect for hearing about some guy’s latest crypto investment and raw meat diet.
After Singapore, the brand has plans to open in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. All that oil money has to go somewhere, doesn’t it?
Sushisamba follows last year’s launch of Highhouse, a similar establishment at One Raffles Place with expansive views of Singapore. Ce La Vi, one of the pioneers of this concept, will be celebrating its 14th anniversary in June 2024.
