Not to be outdone by a certain Japanese donut chain, Krispy Kreme Singapore is now selling matcha doughnuts made with premium matcha from Kyoto, Japan.

The American brand has also introduced hojicha-flavoured doughnuts. There are six new options along with three Matcha chillers, their ice-blended drinks. Both the matcha and hojicha are imported directly from Japan.

Three doughnuts are available now until 20 July 2024. From 21 July to 3 August, three other flavours will be released. A doughnut costs S$3.60, and the Matcha chillers are priced at S$6.90 each.

From now until 20 July, patrons can order the Enchanted Matcha Choco, a classic Krispy Kreme ring doughnut topped with dark chocolate shavings and laced with matcha. The Matcha Wonder is a ring doughnut glazed entirely with matcha and finished with white and dark chocolate. The Dreamy Hojicha features hojicha cream encased within the pastry.

After 21 July, they are replaced with the Matcha Glow, an enclosed doughnut filled with matcha cream, covered with a matcha glaze, and laced with white chocolate. Hojicha Biscoff is a ring doughnut with hojicha glaze and speculoos crumbs, and Matcha Snow is a ring doughnut with matcha glaze and matcha powder.

While these Krispy Kreme matcha doughnuts are only sold during this period, the brand has a Kit Kat matcha chocolate doughnut on its regular menu.

Matcha also ends up in Krispy Kreme’s chillers. They have three combinations – Strawberrie Matcha Swirl, the mango-based Matchago, and Matcha Choco.

Krispy Kreme said they use ceremonial grade matcha from the Uji region in Kyoto supplied by producer Masato Yamamoto. According to Yamamoto’s Instagram page, he also works with Japanese chain Mister Donut and dessert shop 108 Matcha Saro.

This is not the first time a doughnut brand has introduced Uji matcha to its products. Earlier this year, Japanese chain Mister Donut released a series of green tea pastries. They launched a range of hojicha-flavoured doughnuts in Japan.

The matcha and hojicha doughnuts are available at all Krispy Kreme Singapore outlets. The Matcha chillers are sold only at the Suntec City outlet.
