Four restaurants made their debut on The Michelin Guide Singapore 2024, which was announced today.
In total, the prestigious dining guide featured 51 establishments in Singapore, a decrease over last year’s tally of 55. In 2022, the guide had 67 starred restaurants.
The venues to receive one Michelin Star this year included Araya, which blends Chilean and Japanese influences. Chaleur’s 10-course dinner menu juxtaposes French and Japanese ingredients, and Matera combines Italian cooking with Asian flavours.
Pangium was also the latest to receive a Michelin Star. Helmed by local chef Malcolm Lee, he expresses Straits cuisine drawn from generational family recipes and serves them in a lush surrounding. Lee also runs Candlenut, the only Peranakan restaurant in the world with a Michelin Star.
Meta was promoted to two Michelin Stars. The former one-starred restaurant is led by chef Sun Kim, who mixes modern culinary techniques with Korean traditions and minimalist aesthetics. Meta joins five other two-starred venues including Saint Pierre, Cloudstreet, Jaan by Kirk Westaway, Thevar, and Shoukouwa.
There was no change in the three-Michelin-starred category, which included Les Amis, Odette, and Restaurant Zen.
Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle remained the only hawker stall on The Michelin Guide Singapore 2024 to receive a star.
The Michelin Guide Singapore 2024 also released other awards today. Restaurant Fiz with presented with a Green Star, which is given to restaurants for their sustainable practices. Lufianti “Fifi” Susetyo of Buko Nero won the 2024 Michelin Guide Service Award, and Tomas Tapia of Araya was recognised with the Michelin Guide Sommelier Award.
The 2024 Michelin Guide Young Chef Award went to Seth Lai of Ce Soir.
Additionally, 23 eateries were named in The Michelin Selected category, taking the total to 151. Debutants included Food Street Fried Kway Teow Mee, Guan Kee Fried Carrot Cake, Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake, and Thambi Restaurant.
It was not all good news for Singapore restaurants this year. Waku Ghin dropped from two stars to one. Venues that lost their one star included 28 Wilkie Restaurant, Beni, Braci, Cure, La Dame de Pic, Putien (Kitchener Road), Reve, and Table65. Several of these venues have closed.
