It’s not often that a new shopping centre opens in Singapore’s western neighbourhoods, especially one so close to Bukit Timah Hill. If you find yourself around the country’s premier nature reserve, here’s a guide to the best food at Dairy Farm Mall.
Part of Dairy Farm Residences, Dairy Farm Mall is a two-storey retail complex with a woods-inspired theme. It’s located opposite Dairy Farm Nature Park, one of the entry points into Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, and a short bus ride from Bukit Panjang. While greenery surrounds the shopping centre, it’s not the most convenient to get to: only three buses (966, 972M, and 973) ply the road it’s on, and Hillview MRT station is roughly a 15-minute up-hill walk away.
While the food options at Dairy Farm Mall are limited, three cafes provide plenty of refreshments for hikers coming from Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. A.T. Glace is the latest concept by East Coast coffee joint Ambling Turtle, and here they have 16 flavours of gelato and boba tea. Besides ice cream at the aptly named I Scream Cafe, they have shakes, crepes, and chicken and waffles. For French-inspired pastries, head to Patisserie Cle for their quiche Lorraine and caramelised brioche toast.
For variety, turn to Farm House. The modern food court has 200 seats, air conditioning, and a wide range of cuisines from Indonesian to Western food made by an ex-Shangri-La chef. To drink, there’s Nanyang coffee, soya bean beverages, even cocktails, wine, and sake. You deserve carbs after a long walk, so fuel up at Plank, which serves sourdough pizzas cooked in a brick oven. Every Singapore shopping centre worth its salt needs a Japanese restaurant, and Dairy Farm Mall has Monzen, which does izakaya favourites and don bowls. Discover them below.

East Coast cafe Ambling Turtle wanders into Dairy Farm Mall with 16 house-made gelato flavours, which can be scooped onto pandan buttermilk waffles or Hong Kong-style egglets. The joint also specialises in freshly brewed boba tea.

The largest dining establishment at Dairy Farm Mall, Farm House is a 200-seater air-conditioned food court that brings together a range of local and international fare. Stalls include You, which serves its signature XL youtiao with house-made beancurd. KangKar Nang spotlights crab beehoon, and Warung Corner has Indonesian favourites from ayam geprek to beef rendang. Dairy Farm Western offers food made by a former Shangri-La chef, and Tokyo Taste brings together sashimi, hand rolls, and don bowls. Farm House also has cocktails, wine, sake, beer, and Nanyang coffee by Kopifellas.

I Scream Cafe is a cheerily outfitted establishment with gelato, which can be turned into shakes and topped onto waffles and crepes. Beverages range from matcha and coffee to fruit juices, while heartier options include popcorn chicken and waffles drenched with maple syrup.

Monzen features all the staples of a Japanese izakaya, including grilled beef, pork, and chicken skewers, chicken karaage, sashimi, and hand rolls. For lunch, the tonkatsu and chirashi don bowls are some of the most popular items. All lunch sets come with one side dish and green tea.

Patisserie Cle was founded by Germaine Li and Joy Chiam, two pastry chefs who turned their Michelin-starred restaurant background into a French pastry shop. Some of their specialities have a local flavour, like a Mont Blanc inspired by a Teochew yam dessert, while others such as the quiche Lorraine are classically French. The Dairy Farm Mall outlet also offers dine-in breakfast items like an egg salad croissant sandwich and caramelised brioche toast.

Need carbs after a long, arduous climb up all of Bukit Timah’s towering, 164-metre height? Plank comes to the rescue. The pizza joint inside Baker & Cook does it sourdough-style – their starter is named Little Johnny – with a dough fermented for up to 48 hours and baked in a brick oven. The result is a pillowy yet crunchy crust with toppings from camembert to pulled barbecued chicken. Plank also does monthly pizza specials like mortadella and pistachio.
