Hong Kong’s Breakdancing Legend B-Boy Talks To Us About Paris Olympics 2024

With the 2024 Paris Olympics getting underway, we want to take the time to acknowledge some of the talented athletes in our city.

One of the sports that you do not want to miss at the 2024 Paris Olympics is breakdancing. This is the first appearance of the sport in the Olympics and will see 16 “b-boys” and “b-girls” competing on August 9 and 10.

Looking to learn more about the sport and things to look out for during the competition, we caught up with a member of the Hong Kong, China-breaking team Tsang Tsz-Wa, better known as B-Boy Think. Considered one of the original breakers that elevated the scene out of Hong Kong, B-Boy Think has been breaking for over 15 years, and trains multiple times a week on top of his work as a breaking instructor.

As one of Hong Kong’s representatives during the qualifying rounds for Olympic breakdancing, B-Boy Think knows a thing or two about how fierce the competition is and the amount of preparation it takes just to make it to the early stages. Practicing at his studio, he went over some of the aspects of the sport that judges will most likely look at when scoring the breakdancers.

He mentions areas to look out for are on the musicality of the set, meaning how well the music blends in with their moves, the technicality and execution of the moves, originality, and style on stage, and finally, how seamlessly everything is strung together for a cohesive routine. While there will not be any breakdancers representing Hong Kong in this coming Summer Olympics, B-Boy Think along with our team would like to wish our competing athletes in their respective sports the best of luck!

B-Boy Think also mentioned that those watching should pay close attention to “Phil Wizard” Philip Kim from Canada and “Dany Dann” Danis Civil from France who will both be ones to watch.
