Samsung’s ultimate flagship is just around the corner and, as always, you will be able to fold it in half! If rumours are to be believed, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will have powerful specifications and will aim to take on the best foldable phones in the world right now, including offerings from OnePlus, Vivo, Huawei and Tecno.
Likely to be released alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Ring and the Galaxy Watch 7 series at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on 10 July 2024, the new Fold 6 is likely to bolster Samsung’s presence in the premium end of the foldable phone segment. With a larger display, improved cameras, fresh new colours and Samsung’s Galaxy AI at its core, the Fold 6 is expected to offer a highly refined user experience over its predecessor.
If you are eager to check out the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and are considering purchasing it after its release date, you should give this piece a read to get a fair idea of everything you can expect from the high-end device.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6’s leaked specifications at a glance
Before we proceed, keep in mind that the following information comes from rumours and unconfirmed leaks. Hence, we suggest you take all of it with a pinch of salt.
Design
With a book-style foldable, there’s not much wiggle room for designers to play with. Foldable phones are essentially larger versions of slab phones that can fold in half. For a brand like Samsung that likes to maintain its signature identity, the only areas where it could play with the design are the hinge textures and the camera module.
Unfortunately, the last three generations of the Galaxy Z Fold haven’t seen any major changes in the design department and it looks like the Fold 6 won’t be bucking that trend.
Based on the early renders obtained from industry insiders, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 looks largely similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, especially with its rear camera module and hinge decor. However, the aspect ratio has been altered to make the main display appear closer to a square than a vertically elongated rectangle. The change in the aspect ratio also makes the cover display wider, thereby making it much more practical to live with.
It also seems like the Fold 6 went on a diet and shed some of its bulk. When unfolded, the Fold 6 could be just 5.6 mm thick whereas after being folded, it could measure just 12.1 mm. Courtesy of the Titanium frame, the weight is also expected to go down by a couple of grams. Sadly, the S Pen stylus isn’t getting its own storage silo for the fourth year in a row.

Display
With a change in the aspect ratio, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to have wider displays than before. Coupled with the narrow bezels, the Fold 6’s outer display is rumoured to increase in size from 6.2 inches to 6.4 inches. The main display’s dimensions are yet to be known but Samsung is rumoured to be equipping it with IronFlex technology for bolstering its durability. The refresh rate will be variable between 1Hz and 120Hz to optimise the smoothness of animations while saving power. It will still feature the hidden video call camera like its predecessors and we don’t expect to see any major improvements in its imaging output quality.
Performance
Similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has already proven its mettle on the Galaxy S24 Ultra by delivering unmatched performance and power efficiency. Hence, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is also expected to benefit from the same aspects. The advanced neural processing capabilities will also allow the Fold 6 to run Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite of generative AI features in a superior fashion.
One of the big AI features rumoured to be present in the Fold 6 is the smart conversion of hand-drawn illustrations and figures into 3D objects. Although we are yet to figure out a suitable use case scenario for such a feature, it will be helpful in demonstrating Samsung’s prowess in generative AI.
Cameras
Even though the Galaxy Z Fold series has been in dire need of an optical upgrade for its cameras, sadly, the Fold 6 won’t be the generation when it happens. Based on the leaks and rumours, the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s camera system will be identical to what we saw on last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 5, which itself was carried over from the Galaxy Z Fold 4. This means you will continue to get a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter and a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom.
While you are likely to see the advanced chipset and software enhancements work their wonders on the imaging capabilities of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, shutterbugs shouldn’t expect mega changes from this year’s flagship Fold.
Battery
The battery capacity of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 hasn’t been mentioned in the leaks and rumours so far. Hence, just like the cameras, this aspect of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 specifications might also remain unchanged from its predecessor. If the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s battery life was anything to go by, the Fold 6 should be able to deliver a full day’s worth of stamina.
Price
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 already sells at a premium price despite being almost a year old. With no major changes planned for its successor, we expect the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to carry a similar price tag, competing with the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 release date
