The Tesla Robotaxi is no longer a distant dream. Elon Musk took to social media to announce a release date for the American brand’s vision of what the future of mobility could be.
The Tesla Robotaxi has been pitched as a game-changing concept for humanity’s commute-related woes and we are eager to believe that, especially after that astonishing Cybertruck pickup.
While the world awaits a whole new vehicle concept to be shown on the stage on 8 August 2024, there’s a possibility that Tesla could be pulling off something revolutionary. After all, the brand has a habit of surprising people with out-of-the-world products in its illustrious history.
Consider the Cybertruck as a recent example – nobody assumed a wonky-looking space-age vehicle when Tesla said they would make an electric pickup. It took them three years to finalise the product but the Cybertruck is vastly impressive. It’s packed with innovative features and its desirability is off the charts. It’s even bullet-proof!
That leaves us with greater expectations from the Robotaxi. Could it be an all-new vehicle that changes one of mankind’s biggest woes or a simple tweak to existing solutions for improving the cab situation? Let’s explore what the Robotaxi is and how it would change the way we commute.

Tesla Robotaxi: 7 predictions on what it could be
Since Tesla has yet to furnish any details on what the Robotaxi could be, we decided to let our imaginations run wild and conceptualise what this vehicle could be.
Robotaxi may be a modified Model 3/ Model Y
When it comes to creating a vehicle suited for the taxi fleet, most auto manufacturers take an affordable mass-market model and strip it down to its basics to attain a greater scale of economies. With the Robotaxi, Tesla could simply strip down a base-level Model 3 or Model Y and attach a couple of additional radar-based hardware mounted on its roof to navigate the city streets cleverly.
It would look somewhat ugly but it would be functional, right?
Or, it could be a 3-wheeler
Tesla loves to break the norm and with the Robotaxi, it could most likely do a three-wheeler vehicle concept with two seats. It would not only be efficient but a narrow-three-wheeler would be a boon for congested urban city centres. In essence, this would be a glorified version of the South Asian autorickshaw.
Would you mind that?
Could it be a Model 3 driven by the Tesla Bot?
Who knows! Elon Musk proudly shares video footage and photos of the Tesla Bot undergoing its development phase. If the Bot can walk across a room dodging obstacles, couldn’t it drive a vehicle for you? Compared to a human driver, the Bot could see cautionary objects and slow down in advance to stay out of harm’s way. It could also oblige to all your commute needs.
All you need to be wary of is its battery life – what happens if it shuts down while the vehicle is doing 60 kph? Just kidding!
Or, will the Tesla Bot carry you?
Now that’s another fun possibility! The Tesla Bot could take inspiration from the Sherpas of the Himalayas and carry the passengers on their back. Would be quite a ride, we say!
What if the Tesla Bot is a secret Iron Man suit?
Tesla’s genius solution could end up being the coolest way to be transported from point A to point B. Imagine the Tesla Bot flying down to the Robotaxi stage and splits open to reveal Elon Musk inside! That would be incredibly cool, right?
An Iron Man suit devoid of weapons and defensive measures would be an efficient way to be ferried around a city. All Tesla needs to do is make the arc reactor.
A Cybertruck ferrying passengers on its loading bay
Either it is the Iron Man suit or Tesla could go easy by getting inspired by the countryside. The Cybertruck is the most practical vehicle from Tesla and the Robotaxi could simply be its slightly modded version ferrying people on its loading bay. When it rains, that robust cover could keep them safe, won’t it?
Tesla could do a shortcut by using stickers!
After constantly innovating in the automotive sector, the Tesla team must be exhausted and they expect you to cut them some slack. Hence, you won’t mind if Tesla collects a couple of Waymo robot taxis and pastes a Tesla sticker over them, right? You could end up paying lower fares.
