The long-awaited Watch Dogs movie is finally making its way to the big screen. Fans of the popular video game franchise can look forward to witnessing the adventures of a sneaky hacker brought to life in a live-action format, after a long wait.
The games are known for their unique blend of hacking, action and open-world exploration. With such unique ideas fueling this franchise, it came as no surprise when Ubisoft decided to announce a live-action adaptation for it back in 2016.
They were partnering with New Regency to make this adaptation and it was also announced that the film’s story would be inspired by the first game, featuring Aiden Pearce as the protagonist. After these initial announcements, the road to the beginning of the Watch Dogs movie production has been a long one.

Now that filming is underway, let us discuss the Watch Dogs movie’s release date, cast and story details.
All about the cast and plot of the ‘Watch Dogs’ movie
The plot of the Watch Dogs movie adaptation will be based on the story of the first game, which featured a brilliant hacker called Aiden Pearce. He is out on a mission to avenge the death of a loved one caused by some very powerful people.
On this quest for revenge, he meets various characters who are there to either help him or stop him in his tracks. This movie will star Tom Blythe, best known for his portrayal of Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and Sophie Wilde, who was last seen in A24’s Talk to Me.
It will be directed by filmmaker Mathieu Turi, who has previously helmed movies like Hostile and The Dark Deep. There’s decent enough talent behind the Watch Dogs movie; here’s hoping it turns out as fun as Watch Dogs 2 was.
‘Watch Dogs’ movie release date and more
As of now, we have no details on the release date of the Watch Dogs movie and its trailer. But one thing is for sure: it is now on the list of our most anticipated upcoming video game adaptations. We are also hoping this turns out better than other Ubisoft adaptations, like the Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed movies released in 2010 and 2016, respectively.
Hardcore Ubisoft fans would remember that back in 2012, Ubisoft also announced a live-action adaptation of the Splinter Cell game starring Tom Hardy. There’s no news on that project either but the completion of the Watch Dogs movie might encourage Ubisoft to move ahead with that project. Fingers crossed!
