Who gets the top spot—and who ranks at the bottom? This is our ranking of the most lovable characters in The Bear.

The Bear is chaotic. That’s one of the things that make it such a great show—well, that and the fact that it apparently hits a little close to home for chefs because it’s so realistic. In a high-stress environment, it’s not surprising that people can grind on each other sometimes, and we’ve definitely seen a lot of that in the show’s first two seasons.

Which brings us now to this question: who exactly is the most lovable character in The Bear? Everyone has their own stories and issues they’re working through. With the premiere of Season 3, fans are eager to see what happens next. But this is our effort to rank the most lovable characters from The Bear from the least lovable to the most lovable.

The most lovable characters in The Bear ranked.

6. Carmy

Before you come at me with your pitchforks, hear me out. I am rooting for Carmy just as much as everyone else but it cannot be denied that he makes decisions that make him hard to love (please see the last episode of last season). His tendency to go his own way and ignore the people who sincerely care about him is a little infuriating, and I hope he works some of that stuff out this season. Look, I’m not saying he’s completely unlovable but compared to the rest of the people on the list, he has to be at the bottom.

How much do we love them: Will still save him from the walk-in fridge even though it’s probably his fault

5. Marcus

As The Bear’s pastry chef, Marcus would have automatically secured a higher place in this ranking. He was mostly non-problematic: he’s dedicated, loves his mom, and is passionate about what he does. But one moment last season knocks him down a few places: after getting rejected by Sydney, he then explodes and yells at her in the middle of The Bear’s opening night. Fortunately, he did apologise and he and Sydney made up.

How much do we love them: The chocolate cake sort of makes up for it

4. Sydney

Again, give me an opportunity to explain before you set my house on fire. Sydney has had a long journey from being the new kid in the kitchen to ultimately becoming Carmy’s right-hand woman. She endured the hazing from the staff, proved herself, and managed to whip the kitchen into shape even when Carmy wasn’t exactly taking responsibility. But there was a moment last season when she seemed to blame Claire for Carmy not being on the ball. She certainly had every right to call him out but the guy deserves a personal life too.

How much do we love them: She holds everything together despite all the stress so we still love a cool-headed gal

3. Tina

I love Tina’s journey and her arc. I love that Sydney chose her to become her sous even after the stuff she put Sydney through. I love that she went from being set in her ways to undergoing culinary training to being properly trained in the kitchen. But it’s the hazing and the sabotaging she did to Sydney in the early days that puts her in this spot. It was downright mean but like I said, I’m glad that she’s passed that now and that she’s not just growing in her skills but as a person.

How much do we love them: Tia Tina deserves the world and the success coming her way

2. Richie

Cousin could have easily taken the first spot in this ranking. At the beginning of the show, he’s abrasive, problematic, and looks down on himself. But throughout the course of the series, he starts finding purpose and becomes so much happier, and man, is it satisfying to see. On top of that, it’s hard not to love someone who sings “Love Story” at the top of their lungs. It might be controversial to say but I think I’m rooting more for Richie than I am for Carmy.

How much do we love them: Will probably buy him front row seats to “The Eras Tour”

1. Neil

What’s not to love about Neil? He’s the faithful handyman, reliable in every way, and despite getting caught in the crossfire of arguments, he’s still there for everyone. And he cleans up really well in a suit too. Say what you want but Neil takes the rightful top spot of most lovable character in The Bear.

How much do we love them: Will never ever call mum on him
