What is Air Max Day?
For the uninitiated, Air Max Day is an annual event celebrated by sneaker and Nike buffs worldwide. It commemorates the launch of the original Nike Air Max sneaker, which debuted on 26 March 1987. The Air Max line is renowned for its visible Air cushioning unit, a groundbreaking innovation introduced by Nike designer Tinker Hatfield.
On Air Max Day, the sports giant typically releases new Air Max models, restocks popular classic sneakers and hosts various events and collaborations with artists, designers and influencers.

Nike is ringing in the next Air era with the Air Max Dn introduction, featuring two distinct iterations — All Day and All Night.
The All Day variant is the more vibrant of the two and showcases a red-to-purple gradient that embellishes the multilayered mesh upper. A tactile haptic print in red adds texture, while black accents on the tongue, lining, mudguard, heel counter and sole unit provide contrast.
Whereas, the All Night version comes with a monochromatic style featuring a black hue. Additionally, there is a new Air Max badge with a ‘Dn’ note in yellow, white, black and red on the heel, tongue and sock liner. The signature Air unit is notable for its semi-translucent pink appearance, rounding out the design of the Air Max Dn.

Nike Air Max 1 ’86 OG Air Max Day Royal
During the inaugural Air Max Day in 2014, Nike introduced the original Air Max 1 ‘Sport Red’, featuring a midsole adorned with vibrant neon volt colouring and the iconic ‘3.26’ marked on the tongue label. Now 10 years later, the sports brand is set to revisit this concept with the Air Max 1 ’86, this time opting for the alternate original ‘Sport Royal’ colourway.
The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Air Max Day Royal sneaker has been unveiled following sightings of LeBron James sporting them. Staying true to its heritage, this year’s version maintains its unique characteristics, boasting a blue, white and grey upper complemented by ‘Volt’ accents on the midsole and tongue lining. Embracing the celebratory spirit, the sneaker’s tongue proudly showcases the ‘3.26’ motif.

The iconic ‘Royal’ colour palette is executed with a white mesh foundation and grey and blue suede overlays, featuring branding elements like the panel swoosh, Nike tongue tag, embroidered Air heel logo and Air-stamped insoles.
The sneaker includes a visible heel unit breaking through the white midsole, with similar coloured laces completing the clean look.
